Check the hallmark
Look for the purity stamp and a BIS hallmark with a HUID. Ask for a bill that shows weight, purity and making charges separately.

Bank vs jeweller

How can I check whether a silver coin is genuine?
Buy from reputed sellers, and check for a purity stamp (999 or 925) and a BIS hallmark with a HUID code on Indian pieces. Real silver is not magnetic, melts ice unusually quickly, and gives a clear ringing sound when tapped. Weigh the coin — fakes are often slightly under or over the stated weight.
